This is a north facing garden that is sunken down at the back of the house and viewed from the living space above. It was damp, dark, shady and cold, nothing would grow close to the house where soil was poor and the building cast heavy shade.

By building raised beds the soil is improved. Rendered and painted white they bring light to the space. Colour has been introduced through a beautiful selection of shade loving perennials, small trees and climbers. As the garden is viewed all year round there is a good balance of deciduous and evergreens. Bulbs bring seasonal interest as do plants that flower in every season. It is also low maintenance needing only light weeding and seasonal pruning.
